Access to clean water is set to transform life for 2,000 residents of Timboni Village, Kilifi County following the launch of a 5.5 km water piping project funded by ActionAid Kenya. The initiative, inaugurated by Interim Executive Director Samson Orao in partnership with local community members and county leadership, will establish new water points across the village, bringing water closer to households and reducing the daily burden of long treks.

“Water was a challenge, and we had to travel over 6 km to fetch it. This project means that we will finally have clean water close to our homes for drinking, cooking, and other domestic use,” said Mapenzi, a Timboni resident, reflecting the relief felt by many women who bear the responsibility of collecting water.
The launch event was attended by Hon. Omar Said Omar, County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Water and Environment, Kilifi County Government who highlighted the project’s importance.
“We are proud to partner with ActionAid Kenya to ensure that every household in Timboni has reliable access to clean water. This is not just about convenience, it is about health, education, and long-term community development,” he said.

Samson Orao emphasized the wider impact:
“Clean water is a fundamental human right. By reducing the distance residents must travel, we are empowering communities, especially women and children, and supporting daily livelihoods.”
The project is expected to significantly ease water scarcity challenges, improving hygiene, health, and overall quality of life for residents. By bringing water closer to homes, it also frees up time for education, farming, and other productive activities, creating a positive ripple effect throughout the community.
ActionAid Kenya remains committed to championing sustainable initiatives that strengthen community resilience, enhance access to essential services, and improve the well-being of marginalized communities across Kenya.
