Education For Life Project (EFL)

The project under the leave no girl behind funding window by Girl’s education challenge (UKAID) has been working in five counties (Kisumu, Garissa, Kilifi, Migori and Isiolo) in partnership with Voluntary Services Overseas (VSO) Kenya and Leonard Cheshire (LC) to bring about accelerated literacy and numeracy outcomes, life skills for the most marginalized Out of School Girls (OOSG) by transforming their educational and vocational attainment and lives. More specifically, the EfL project work with severely marginalized girls (5,000) and boys (500) aged 10–19 and distributed as 70% never enrolled in school; 30% having had some interface with the formal school system but dropped out without gaining basic education and 30% with disability.

DANIDA Strategic Partnership Agreement (SPA) 2

This is the second phase of this partnership that is funded by DANIDA through ActionAid Denmark from January 2022 to December 2025.

OVERALL OBJECTIVE: Young people, especially women, and marginalised people enjoy fundamental rights through improved access to well-resourced programmes and public services, improved sustainable livelihoods, protection from and resilience to shocks, disasters, and protracted crisis in 5 arid and semi-arid counties.

 

Key Actions

- Train young people on leadership, human rights, rights to services, fundamental freedoms, relevant legal frameworks, and budget tracking.
- Facilitate young people and their institutions to undertake social audits on delivery of government priorities and GRPS and present the findings in critical platforms where decisions are made.
- Build capacity of young people to influence the enactment and implementation of policies, laws, and strategies that advance realization of climate justice.
- Train young people on disaster preparedness and mitigation in line with ActionAid’s Humanitarian Signature.

Intermediate Outcomes

- Young people build leadership and have knowledge and tools to hold governments and humanitarian actors accountable.
-Young people engage in social movements and with other stakeholders to build alliances and bring leverage to their actions.
-Young people analyze and define their priorities and gather evidence for advocacy.
-Young people develop and pilot alternative solutions.

Long-Term Outcomes

- Young people and their allies hold governments to account for the delivery of well-resourced public services and social protection programmes.
- Young people and their allies meaningfully participate in decision making processes at all levels.
- Young people and their allies provide sustainable, climate just, and resilient solutions that are scalable or replicable.
- Young people lead collective action together with allies to reduce vulnerabilities and build resilience in their communities.

ASSUMPTIONS: AAIK and local partners promote dialogue between young people’s movements and duty bearers to advance young people’s priorities (IO2) and support young people with the capacity and tools to analyze and define their priorities and the ability to gather evidence for advocacy (IO3), then young people will have the capacity to keep governments accountable (LTO1) and the ability to participate in decision making (LTO2).

Down 2 Earth Project

Translating climate information into multi-level decision support for social adaptation, policy development and resilience to water scarcity in the Horn of Africa Drylands

Objectives

  • To address the multi-faceted challenges of water scarcity and food insecurity under climate change in Horn of Africa Dryland by facilitating community-centred adaptation and resilience to climate change impacts.
  • To use a multidisciplinary, inclusive approach, bringing together local communities, academic experts, novel decision-support tools, multi-level governance structures, regional climate centres, and NGOs.

Africa Led Movement (ALM) to End FGM/C

Africa Led Movement (ALM) to End FGM/C is a consortium led by Options Consultancy Services and includes Amref Health Africa, ActionAid, Orchid Project, Africa Coordination Centre for Abandonment of FGM/C and the University of Portsmouth and Population Council. This programme will continue to support and build the capacity of the already existing Africa-led Movement to end FGM/C at multiple levels and at scale. The programme is working in partnership with the rest of the FGM/C community at all levels, including UN agencies.
