In a significant step toward improving education access in rural Kenya, ActionAid Kenya has officially handed over a newly constructed Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) classroom at Kodida Primary School, located in Got Kojowi, Ndhiwa Sub-County, Homa Bay County. This initiative, made possible through ActionAid Kenya’s Child Sponsorship Programme and the BigMe Campaign, aims to provide young learners with a safe, conducive, and welcoming environment to embark on their educational journey.

The project underscores ActionAid Kenya’s commitment to ensuring that children across the country, especially those in underserved regions, have access to quality education. The new classroom is part of the organization’s broader effort to support early childhood education and provide children with the foundational skills necessary for lifelong learning.
Euphemia Awuor, speaking on behalf of Executive Director Susan Otieno, emphasized the significance of the classroom in furthering ActionAid’s mission.
“On behalf of our Executive Director, Susan Otieno, we are proud to be part of this transformative project. This classroom represents not just a physical space for learning, but a promise to the children of Got Kojowi that their education matters,” said Awuor. “Through the continued support of our partners, we can invest in the future of these children, ensuring they have the foundation to reach their full potential.”

The handover event was also graced by Collins Onyango Obango, the Chief Officer in charge of Education for Homa Bay County, whose presence highlighted the importance of educational development and the role of county governments and partners in ensuring that every child has an opportunity to succeed.
“Education is a key pillar in empowering our youth and building a prosperous future. This new classroom is a great step forward in enhancing access to quality education in this region,” said Obango.

Florence Ogalo, the headteacher of Kodida Primary School, expressed her heartfelt gratitude to ActionAid Kenya for the new classroom.
“We are deeply thankful to ActionAid Kenya for this generous support. This new classroom will provide our students with a better learning environment, giving them the opportunity to thrive academically and reach their full potential,” Ogalo said.
The classroom will directly benefit children in the Kodida Primary School area, giving them the resources and space they need to thrive academically. It also marks another milestone in ActionAid Kenya’s ongoing work to empower children and communities through education.
As ActionAid Kenya continues its efforts in partnership with local and global stakeholders, the focus remains on building a brighter future for the next generation, one classroom at a time.
